Frequently asked questions

How often is availability data updated?
Campgrounds you set an alert on are scanned every 15 minutes so you get notified quickly when a cancellation opens up. All other campgrounds are refreshed every 12 hours. We track availability up to 6 months out — the booking horizon for most providers. Each result shows when it was last updated.
Which campgrounds do you cover?
We cover campgrounds listed on Recreation.gov (national parks, national forests, and more) as well as California state parks via ReserveCalifornia. More state park systems are planned!
How do alerts work?
When you find a campground you're interested in, save it as a watch with your preferred dates. We'll scan it every 15 minutes and send you an email when the site becomes available!
Is CampScout free?
Yes. CampScout is 100% free! All bookings happen on the official provider sites — we never charge a fee or act as a middleman.
Does CampScout book sites for me?
No. We alert you when availability opens up and link you directly to the booking page, but the reservation is always made by you on the official site. Auto-booking is against provider terms of service and we don't support it.
